Membership Types

Resident/Fellow Membership
A resident member must be a resident in emergency medicine at an Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited residency program.

A fellow member must have completed a residency in emergency medicine at an Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited residency program and be in a fellowship. Fellows in pediatric emergency medicine who have graduated from an Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education or American Osteopathic Association accredited pediatric residency program are also eligible for fellow membership.

Resident/fellow members may vote for resident/fellow positions within AAEM/RSA board of directors.

International Membership
International member status is available for those resident/fellows or medical students with an interest in emergency medicine who practice outside of the United States or Canada. International members may vote, but cannot run for office.

International resident members receive the same benefits as the Resident/Fellow membership, but includes an electronic subscription to the Journal of Emergency Medicine and Common Sense. A free copy of the Toxicology Handbook is available to International resident members, but the member must pay shipping cost.

Student Membership
A student member must be a medical student at an accredited medical or osteopathic program in the United States or Canada. Student members may vote for the student representative to AAEM/RSA board of directors and the regional representatives of the AAEM/RSA medical student section.

Free Student Membership
A free student member must be a medical student at an accredited medical or osteopathic program in the United States or Canada. Free student members are eligible for this membership only during the first membership year they belong to AAEM/RSA. Free student members shall have no right to vote.
