General Election Info

The American Academy of Emergency Medicine Resident and Student Association (AAEM/RSA) has numerous opportunities for you to become more involved in our organization. You must be an AAEM/RSA paid member to run for the council and to vote.

Medical Student Council:
The medical student council enhances AAEM/RSA's services to students and expands the medical student leadership to coordinate student initiatives, regional activities and recruitment.

The medical student council is composed of seven members which includes the president, vice president, four regional representatives and one international ex officio member. AAEM/RSA's paid student members will elect the leadership and develop their own initiatives and services under the direction of AAEM/RSA. The medical student council holds regularly scheduled meetings by conference calls.

Below is a list of positions on the AAEM/RSA medical student council with a brief description of duties following each position.

President - participates in monthly conference calls with the AAEM/RSA board of directors as well as conference calls with the medical student council. Two in-person board meetings will be scheduled as well, one at the SAEM meeting in May 2012, and one at the 19th Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly in Las Vegas, NV, February 11-13, 2013. The medical student council president also helps coordinate AAEM/RSA sponsored EM medical student symposia in their region, if applicable (please view our most recent symposia here Midwest Medical Student Symposium and Mid-Atlantic Medical Student Symposium).

Vice President - assists the president in running the medical student council and oversees maintenance of the EM Select program.

Regional Representatives: West, Midwest, South, Northeast (distribution of states listed below) - within their region, the representative coordinates AAEM/RSA student initiatives, communicates with medical student liaisons at each school in their region, manages Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) listings and manages EM Select residency information.

International Member - this is an ex officio non-voting medical student council position. This council representative is responsible for representing the needs of international AAEM/RSA student members.
