General Election Info

The American Academy of Emergency Medicine Resident and Student Association (AAEM/RSA) has numerous opportunities for you to become more involved in our organization. You must be an AAEM/RSA paid member to run for the board and to vote.

Medical Student Council:
The Medical Student Council enhances AAEM/RSA's services to students and expands the medical student leadership to coordinate student initiatives, regional activities and recruitment.

The Medical Student Council is composed of ten officers which includes the president, vice president and eight regional representatives. AAEM/RSA's paid student members will elect the leadership and develop their own initiatives and services under the direction of AAEM's Resident and Student Association. The Medical Student Council holds regularly scheduled meetings by conference calls.

President - responsible for running the AAEM/RSA Medical Student Council and also serves a dual role as the student representative to the AAEM/RSA Board of Directors.

Vice President - assists the president in running the Medical Student Council and oversees maintenance of the EM Select program.

Regional Representatives: West, Midwest, South, Northeast (distribution of states listed below) - within their region, two representatives (each coming from a different school, unless no one else runs within the region) coordinate AAEM/RSA student initiatives, communicate with medical student liaisons at each school in their region, manage Emergency Medicine Interest Group (EMIG) listings and manage EM Select residency information.

West - CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, NM, UT, CO, ID, MT, WY, AL, TX, ND, SD, NE and HI
Midwest - KS, OK, MN, IA, MO, AR, LA, WI, IL, IN, OH and MI
Northeast - NY, PA, NJ, DE, MD, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME and D.C.
South - KY, WV, VA, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, FL and P.R.

International Member - this is an ex officio nonvoting medical student council position. This council representative is responsible for representing the needs of international AAEM/RSA student members.
