The AAEM/RSA Student Section presents EM SELECT!

http://www.emselect.org

If our experiences were anything like other fourth year medical students applying to Emergency Medicine (EM) residency programs, you probably started out this process by putting together a list of all of the EM programs in the country. From there you narrowed down your list by the places you would not live if your life depended upon it, and then added a few of them back because your advisor scared you that there is always the possibility that you might not match. Then you started the arduous process of balancing the details of program length, practice environments and curriculum strengths with the advice from fellow classmates, residents, and attendings.

We were in the exact same boat as most applicants were when we began the application process. We found that one of the biggest weaknesses in this entire process is the fact that there is no way to quickly sort through information about EM programs or keep track of it easily.

We envisioned a tool that would allow an applicant to go online and use a number of criteria that was important to them to develop a list of programs to apply to. From there, a user could modify the criteria for any number of variables to add or subtract programs. More importantly, users would be able to use this tool throughout the application process using it to keep notes on their interviews to putting together simulated rank lists.
