AAEM/RSA Medical Student Awards:

AAEM/RSA Resident & Medical Student Awards:

 

Nominations for all other AAEM/RSA awards will open in Fall 2021.

All awards will be reviewed and recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee.

 

Kevin Rodgers Program Director of the Year Award

This award recognizes an EM program director who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of emergency medicine and AAEM. The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee. Award presentations are made at the Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly. Nominators and nominees must be AAEM/RSA or AAEM members to qualify.

Program Coordinator of the Year Award

This award recognizes an EM program coordinator who has made an outstanding contribution to the field of emergency medicine and AAEM. The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee. Award presentations are made at the Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly.

Committee Member of the Year Award

This award recognizes AAEM/RSA committee members who have made noteworthy contributions to their committee(s). The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee. One medical student and one resident winner will be chosen, and will be awarded with a plaque at the Annual AAEM Scientific Assembly.

Nominees for this award must:

  • Have been involved with an AAEM/RSA committee for an entire year.
  • Be nominated by an AAEM/RSA Board of Directors Member or AAEM/RSA Committee Chair.
  • Have made significant contributions to the committee above and beyond expectations.

AAEM/RSA International and Regional EMIG of the Year Awards

AAEM/RSA recognizes the unparalleled value Emergency Medicine Interest Groups (EMIGs) provide for medical students interested in pursuing a residency in emergency medicine. EMIGs bring students together to: foster an interest in EM, help navigate the residency application process, dig into educational resources related to EM, network with other students going into the specialty, enhance out of class activities, plan events or skill sessions, and more! 

Purpose:

The purpose of the AAEM/RSA EMIG of the Year Award is to honor exemplary performing EMIGs on an international and regional scale as well as the individual student leaders who work tirelessly to organize such valuable opportunities for their EMIG members.

Award Recipients:

Regional EMIG Awards:

Each year, a maximum of two EMIGs per region will be selected:

  1. Regional EMIG of the Year 
  2. Regional 1st Runner Up

Regional Breakdown:

  • Region 1: Northeast - NY, PA, NJ, DE, MD, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME, and D.C.
  • Region 2: South - KY, WV, VA, TN, NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, FL, and P.R.
  • Region 3: Midwest - KS, OK, MN, IA, MO, AR, LA, WI, IL, IN, OH, and MI
  • Region 4: West - CA, OR, WA, NV, AZ, NM, UT, CO, ID, MT, WY, AL, TX, ND, SD, NE, and HI
  • Region 5: International: All other international medical schools

From the 10 EMIGs selected for the Regional Awards, a maximum of three EMIGs will be recognized for the National EMIG of the Year:

  1. National EMIG of the Year 
  2. First runner-up
  3. Second runner-up

International EMIG Award:

Each year, a maximum of 2 International EMIGs will be selected:

  1. International EMIG of the Year 
  2. International 1st Runner Up

Prize: 

Recipients of the AAEM/RSA International and Regional EMIG of the Year Awards will receive: membership box for all EMIG members, plaque, recognition in Common Sense and on AAEM/RSA website

Eligibility:

Any EMIG associated with an LCME-accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school, or any EMIG associated with an international medical school may apply to be considered for the AAEM/RSA International or Regional EMIG of the Year Awards.

Criteria:

Recipients will be judged by the overall quality of their application and accomplishments of its members, with emphasis on the following events, but not limited to:

  • Total numbers of AAEM/RSA members in each EMIG
  • Quality/quantity of EMIG events held 
  • AAEM/RSA or other emergency medicine related publications/presentations by EMIG members
  • Regional/National impact of EMIG events/leadership 

Application Timeline & Selection Process:

All EMIGs events performed from July 1 - June 30 of the year and documented in the application will be considered. Application deadline will be September 15th with awards announced by September 27th in order for recipients to be recognized prior to ERAS submissions. The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee, in conjunction with the AAEM/RSA Medical Student Council leadership, with final determinations for recipients to be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee.

National Medical Student of the Year Scholarship Award

Scholarship Criteria

The AAEM/RSA National Medical Student of the Year Scholarship recognizes one fourth year EM-bound medical student who demonstrates a dedication to the specialty of emergency medicine through leadership, advocacy, research, and/or academic excellence.

Eligibility

Fourth-year medical student who is:

  • A current paid member of AAEM/RSA at the time of nomination
  • In good standing at a U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical school
  • Applying for a position in emergency medicine (EM) in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) or the military match

Application Process

  • Letters of endorsement from the EM chair, program director, clerkship director, or emergency medicine faculty
  • Documentation of leadership in medical organizations and the community, research/publications, awards, and academic excellence
  • Personal CV of nominated medical student

Selection Criteria

Leadership/service within emergency medicine and the community, advocacy for policy topics relevant to the specialty of emergency medicine, research/publications, and academic excellence. The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee.

Scholarship Award: 

The national recipient will receive a $500 monetary prize, recognition in AAEM/RSA publications and at the annual AAEM Scientific Assembly with complementary attendance and an award plaque.

Regional Medical Student of the Year Scholarship Award

Scholarship Criteria

The AAEM/RSA Regional Medical Student of the Year Scholarships recognize one fourth year EM-bound medical student in each region who demonstrates a dedication to the specialty of emergency medicine through leadership, advocacy, research, and/or academic excellence.

Eligibility

Fourth-year medical student who is:

  • A current paid member of AAEM/RSA at the time of nomination

Faculty Mentor of the Year Award

Award Criteria

The aim of the AAEM/RSA Faculty Mentor of the Year Award is to acknowledge an attending faculty in emergency medicine who served as an outstanding role model for medical students, residents, and/or fellows. 

Eligibility

Any attending physician in emergency medicine who is a member of AAEM.

Selection Criteria

Recipients will be judged based on the influence of their mentorship on the success of medical students, residents, and fellows. The winner of this award will be recommended by the AAEM/RSA Membership & Awards Committee. Final determinations for recipients will be made by the AAEM/RSA Executive Committee.

Application Process and Deadline

Award Criteria
