After much discussion, the RSA board has voted to no longer support the implementation of the SVI. RSA remains concerned about the monetary and other detrimental effects that the SVI has on medical student applicants. We hesitate to add yet another hurdle to the already stressful residency application process, particularly when the SVI has failed to demonstrate any added value. We supported the pilot SVI in the hopes that it would provide a useful measure of intangible qualities in a resident. However, since the first two pilot years failed to demonstrate any value, the RSA can no longer support this project. RSA will remain involved in the SVI work group to keep our members interest at the forefront.
